Your grandmother and I have traveled to an island called Chejudo. Chejudo is one of the largest island in Korea, and it is one of the most popular vacation spot in korea. This island is well known for their tangerine orchards, and folk village. And at the island, we also saw the "Grandfather stones" which was scattered all over the island.

Good morning Carolyn. So how was your International Bread Sampling Day? So Italian bread was your favorite....yummy! Did you like the Stollen you brought? Your Great Grandma always use to make it at Christmas time and it was my favorite. Your Grandma also made it several times when I was younger. Love Mom!

Olivia,

Even though St. Patrick’s Day might have started in Ireland it is a very popular holiday in the USA. I believe the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade is in New York and in Chicago they dye the river green for St. Patrick’s Day.

If you click on my name below (if I did my link right) you will see a couple Chicagoans celebrating St. Patrick’s Day about 8 years ago.

Do you know why you get pinched if you don't wear green on St. Patrick's Day? I try to remember to wear green, but sometimes I forget, and then the pinching begins!

You are right, Mt. Vesuvius did erupt during 79 A.D. More specifically, do you know the exact date it began erupting? If so, you will then know my birth date.

I didn't know that the castle at Disneyland was created to look similar to another castle. Thanks for sharing something new - it's fun to learn cool facts like that! I think I'd like to visit a real castle some day, would you?

It's important to note that Croatia has been an independent nation for several years now. "Yugoslavia" actually does not exist any more. It used to be made up of many countries that are now independent, for example: Bosnia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia.

Sophia, I would love to visit Greece sometime. I love the restaurant Santorini in Greek Town. It sounds like the actual place is a "must see" on my trip to Greece.

I too was in Hawaii and walked on the volcano. It was a beautiful sight so early in the morning and a bit chilly as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Sophia - Santorini is spectacular! We plan on visiting there in a few years and maybe we can go and explore the area where the volcano erupted. Your Yai Yai and Paupu have visited Santorini many times and it was there favorite island of all the islands in Greece. Mommy went to Hawaii a few times and actually walked on a volcano - it was a beautiful sight that I will never forget.

Very nice shamrock. Is the leprechaun real? Did you ever hear a harp play? It would be nice if you could put in a leprechaun story on this site. Do you know what the colors of the flag are? What is a shillelagh? Is it something you eat? It sound's like it would be a yummy food.

Hi Joshua,
I became interested in Kenya so I did some of my own research. Did you know...
The Kenyan wilderness is home to many natural habitats and many different animal species.
A safari into the wilds of Kenya is a journey through 59 national parks and game reserves.
In Kenya you'll find 42 cultures, many in villages unchanged by the modern world.
Kenya provides opportunities to learn about endangered wildlife such as the black rhino, sea turtle, Grevy's zebra, sitatunga, wild dog and Colobus monkey.
Did you know that Kenya has a 300-mile Indian Ocean coastline of beaches, and protective coral reefs?

Hi Eric and Adrian,
I did a bit of reseach on Warsaw myself...here is what I found out.

Warsaw, is a city with a population of nearly 2 million (Wow, that is ALOT of people). In Chicago, according to the last number counted (2000) there are
2. 8 million people in Chicago!

Warsaw is made up of 18 districts. Here are the names... (can you or any of your classmates pronounce these correctly?)
Bemowo, Białołęka, Bielany, Mokotów, Ochota, Praga Płudnie, Praga Północ, Rembertów, Śródmieście, Targówek, Ursus, Ursynów, Wawer, Wesoła, Wilanów, Włochy, Wola, Żoliborz.

In 1881 in Warsaw, the first telephone lines for communication were installed!

I found this neat site that figures out what time it is where you are and then figures out what time it is somewhere else.

Right now....Chicago (U.S.A. - Illinois)

I have always loved the Olympic games. It is one of the very few things that brings people from all over the world together to compete and celebrate. It is amazing how big the games have gotten in just over 100 years and how many different and new events there are every 4 years! And the most recent summer games were hosted right back where they started - in Greece!

Funny you should comment on the Disney castle! Pierce and I were working on this same question today. Take a look at his posting. In a quick summary, the Cinderella castle is modeled after a castle in France. The Sleeping Beauty Castle (Disneyland in California and Hong Kong) is the castle modeled after a castle in Germany. You can look at Pierce's post to find out the name. I had checked several sites and all say that these two castles and locations are commonly confused. I have not looked in any books though to see if my site sources are correct. Maybe we should look in some books, too?

It is so cool about your name translation! I learned something today!

Miss O'Neill teaches in Berlin. Did you remember that? Last week she went to her first German Basketball Game. The team is called the Alba Berlin. The Berlin team played RheinEnergie Köln from Cologne. Here are some things she observed at the game:

1. The ball has white stripes on it.
2. Lots of the players are guys from the United States.
3. The Germans really get behind their team and cheer alot.

Otherwise, it was pretty much the same as basketball here in the states!

Miss O’Neill teaches in Berlin.

According to legend, the ancient Olympic Games were founded by Heracles, a son of Zeus. At this Olympic Games, Coroebus (he was a cook can you believe that! ), won the only event at the Olympics, the "stade" - a run of approximately 192 meters (210 yards). This made Coroebus the very first Olympic champion in history! - Mrs. Murdach

I know the answer to this one! It is Mount Vesuvius and it buried the towns of Herculaneum and Pompeii. I will post a picture of it.
