More information on the Olympic Games by Charlie

The Olympic games honored the Ancient god Zeus. The first games in Ancient Greece were only a footrace in full battle gear. The Olympics that we know began in 1896 in Athens, Greece.

  1. According to legend, the ancient Olympic Games were founded by Heracles, a son of Zeus. At this Olympic Games, Coroebus (he was a cook can you believe that! ), won the only event at the Olympics, the “stade” – a run of approximately 192 meters (210 yards). This made Coroebus the very first Olympic champion in history! – Mrs. Murdach

  2. I have always loved the Olympic games. It is one of the very few things that brings people from all over the world together to compete and celebrate. It is amazing how big the games have gotten in just over 100 years and how many different and new events there are every 4 years! And the most recent summer games were hosted right back where they started – in Greece!

  4. Some of my favorite memories from when I was growing up were when my whole family would watch the Summer Olympics together. I loved watching the gymnastics and tennis. What are your favorite events? Love, Mom
