An Island in Greece by Sophia

Santorini is Greece’s most spectacular island. It sits on the rim of a volcano that exploded about 1,400BC. It was probably the biggest volcanic erruption in history.

Volcano crators at Santorini today.

  1. Sophia,
I was interested in volcanos after reading your post so I wanted to find out more information about volcanos in North America. I found out that there are volcanos in Arizona, California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming but they are not all “active”. Do you know what that means?

A volcano is a vent in the Earth from which molten rock (magma) and gas erupt. The molten rock that erupts from the volcano (lava) forms a hill or mountain around the vent.

  2. Sophia – Santorini is spectacular! We plan on visiting there in a few years and maybe we can go and explore the area where the volcano erupted. Your Yai Yai and Paupu have visited Santorini many times and it was there favorite island of all the islands in Greece. Mommy went to Hawaii a few times and actually walked on a volcano – it was a beautiful sight that I will never forget.

  3. Sophia, I would love to visit Greece sometime. I love the restaurant Santorini in Greek Town. It sounds like the actual place is a “must see” on my trip to Greece.

I too was in Hawaii and walked on the volcano. It was a beautiful sight so early in the morning and a bit chilly as well.

    Thanks for sharing.
