Information on Volcanos…Joey & Sophia got me “thinking” – Mrs. Murdach

Mount Vesuvius in Italy is a famous volcano that errupted in 79 A.D. It buried the towns of Herculaneum and Pompeii. Here is a picture of Pompeii with Mount Vesivius in the background. Even though it was a terrible erruption, it has not had any activity in many, many years. That makes it a dormant volcano but not extinct.

This is a picture if Mount Vesuvius “looking over” Naples

The volcano can be referred to as “asleep”, since it is not expected to erupt anytime in the near future. It is quite possible that the volcano will eventually be active again. Dormant volcanos sometimes have activity, like steam and hot volcanic gases, leaking out.
