Have you ever been to Venice? I have. It is one of the most amazing places in the world! One of the things I found surprising about Venice was how quiet it was. People there either ride in boats, called gondolas, or walk everywhere they want to go. Because there are no cars, it is very quiet. Every once in a while you might hear a boat motor starting up, but that’s it.

Venice is a magical place. The buildings rise from the water. The city hasn’t changed much from long ago. You can go from place to place on vaperettos or boats that are public transportation. In the summer there are so many people out and about. St. Mark’s Square is a special place to go, see the pigeons and have a cold drink. I hope you get to travel there some day.
With all of the water in Venice, are there any problems with flooding or water polution?
Joey,
Venice was one of my favorite cities to visit in Europe, and I hope I can go back again. Did you know that many people are worried that Venice might eventually sink because of the rising level of the Adriatic Sea? Luckily, engineers are working to prevent this from happening.
